Going Bridal: Interfaith Relationships

When discussing marriage and relationships in general, you have to talk about the art of compromise and how to deal with different situations. Life is not always simple, you will have to go through things that are unexpected, yet these things will have a profound effect on you.

When you fall in love with someone, you are unaware of their cultural background and religious upbringing at first. I am currently in an interfaith relationship. An interfaith relationship is one which both parties follow two different religions. Many have said that this type of relationship can be hard on a couple because they will have to compromise on certain things. I have just experienced one of the major compromises I had to make; two wedding ceremonies.

My fiance just revealed to me, a week ago, that he would like to have a wedding ceremony based on his religious beliefs. He explained what the ceremony would consist of and what involvement I would have in the ceremony. I have to be honest, my initial reaction was "Hell no" but I remembered what he is doing for me. I had to learn how to compromise very quickly and accept what he wants. Its only fair that he gets to experience his traditional wedding ceremony too.

Are you in an interfaith relationship? Do you know how to compromise? Have you compromised before? Do you find it hard to compromise with your significant other?
